Cup of Bliss: Roasting the Mobile Coffee Bar Competition

In August of 2020 our client reached out about fabricating not just a mobile coffee bar, but a mobile coffee roaster. This positive and upbeat self titled Lady Roaster wanted to take her business on wheels. And so began the journey of The Cup of Bliss Mobile Roaster.

As a small business owner there were a few key parameters our Lady Roaster wanted to outline before we began designing – budget and consumer experience. We call this our “hierarchy of dream”, the elements or features which ground a design. We love to brainstorm with our clients and it’s easy to get caught up in all the incredible things you can do to transform an airstream, but, at the end of the day, the “hierarchy of dream” will always help you get back on track. Our client wanted to create a trailer where she could craft the perfect cup of coffee from bean to bliss and include her consumers in the process. 

When we showed her several vintage Airstream options (check out our instagram to see the airstream farm and ever growing inventory) there was really only one trailer perfect enough for this venture – a 1970 21’ Globetrotter with a 10 foot vending window. There couldn’t have bean a more perfect pair. With a window large enough to engage with consumers and showcase her coffee process, she signed the dotted line and we got to work. It took three months after signing to bring everything together and the wait was worth it. 

Our incredible carpenter built custom cabinets on either side of the trailer for optimal storage and counter top space. Finished in a beautiful hazelnut stain, it looked a latte like the gorgeous cups of coffee our Lady Roaster pours – coincidence….I think not. Overall the design elements were as follows:

• Reframed 10 foot vending window – perfect for consumers to check out the process while they wait for their brew
• Custom 8ft counter tops with stained butcher block
• 4-Comp sink with built in butcher block sink covers 
• Vinyl flooring
• Exhaust vent for roaster 
• Handmade cabinetry 
• Exterior brand decals with social and QR code
